Manas National Park is an UNESCO world heritage site, a Project Tiger reserve, an Elephant reserve and a bio-sphere reserve, located in the foothills of the Indo-Bhutan Himalayan border region. On 25 February 2008, the area was increased to 950 km2. On 21 June 2011, it was removed from the List of World Heritage in Danger and was commended for its efforts in preservation.

The Himalayan Brown Bear is the only subspecies of Brown Bear that lives in the Himalayas. These bears are omnivorous and hibernate in a den during the winter. While the brown bear as a species is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, this subspecies is highly endangered, and populations are dwindling. It is endangered in the Himalayas and critically endangered in Hindu Kush.

Kanha Tiger Reserve, also called Kanha-Kisli National Park, is one of the tiger reserves of India and the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh, in the heart of India. The present-day Kanha area is divided into two sanctuaries, Hallon and Banjar. Kanha National Park was created on 1 June 1955 and in 1973 was made the Kanha Tiger Reserve. Today it stretches over an area of 940 km2 (360 sq mi) in the two districts Mandla and Balaghat.
